It hurts a lot & it’ll take about 1hr for the top. If you’re getting it on the bottom too it’ll take 1hr. But if you’re getting a checkup too it will be 30 mins extra depending on your dentist.

Most people take some time to adjust to the braces, you get them in a few weeks. From http://aches.in/dentalbraces.html

the pain with getting braces really depends on the person. some people, like myself, have really sensitive teeth, so it hurt a lot. but other people have a high pain tolerance, so it doesn’t really hurt them at all. it’s probably not going to feel like your going to die, but it’s going to be pretty sore. some advice before you get them on: take advil & put on chapstick (because your lips get pretty dried out).

They did hurt, but I was able to tolerate them & I don’t have a high pain tolerance. Taking Advil & using wax & cold sore medication will help.

It kind of aches. Its not really painful, more like a dull ache. Tylenol helps. Its worth it once you get them off.
Not having a checkup for a while will only affect it if you have dental work – like filling a cavity, that needs to get done before you get them put on. But that can be done in a day.

to get the braces put on no it doesnt hurt but a few hours after it hurts. but the spacers you more then likely have to get do hurt for the first 48-72 hours. you should probably go get a check up before you start your braces.

I an almost 13, & have a verry low pain tollerance, so if I could do it I,m pretty sure you can. When you first get them on you wont feel anything, then about an hour later they will fell kind of tight but wont hurt. By that night you will fell some pain, but not enough to make you cry or something. Your teeth & gums will be achy & sore & may throb a little but it’s not terrible. I hear in the end its really worth it! Good luck!

When you first get the braces on, you’ll feel a little bit of pressure, but then after a couple of hours they start to hurt. One piece of advice… put chap stick on your lips because they will keep tugging on your lips & it will make your lips cracked.

No it does not hurt to get braces. Not enough for you to worry about anyway. there is no stinging pain & nothing unbearable about it at all! you will simply have to lie still with your mouth propt open for about half & hour. the only ‘pain’ you will feel is discomfort during the first part. your orthodontist will ask you to breath through your nose so that he can block off your mouth. this is to prevent saliva going into your mouth & making the teeth wet, as they will need to be completly dry (and he will dry then with a air shooter thing) before the brace brackets can be glued onto your teeth. once they are on, he will put a wire through them. when you first get to get up & wash your mouth out, you will feel VERY strange, like there is some huuge thing in your mouth which wont allow your lips to close. you will feel self-concious about it, but trust me, despite what you will think, it looks completely normal to everyone around you. the feeling of their vbeing something huge in your mouth will disappear within days & after a couple of weeks wont wont be able to tell they are there at all! i would give you more advice but i think ive rambled on long enough, & your orthodontist will tell you absolutely everything you need to know from there on.
To your second question…..
The process of getting braces is quite a long one. usually, before having a brace they will take pictures of your teeth, create a mould of your mouth, possibly remove one or two teeth, have a retainer to get the teeth in the righ position before having the actual brace & possibly a couple more things. none of them take that up much time apart from the retainer. if you have to have a retainer before having the brace then this can take around 6 months. however, the results are well worth the wait.
TIP: 15 minutes before having your braces fitted, take a pain killer like ibuprofen. your mouth will start to really ache after you get them on unless you do this. i learnt the hard way!
carry around painkillers for the first few weeks, as the pain can get really quite bad, but usually doesnt last too long.
GOOD LUCK & look forward to having beautiful straight teeth!
