How To Reduce/stop Teeth Clenching While Sleeping?

I clench my teeth at night. Sometimes it’s so bad that I wake up with tension pain in my jaw & neck & I can’t seem to fully relax my jaw. I know that a mouth guard is one option to protect my teeth, but that is a last resort for me because, 1. I can’t afford it right now & insurance won’t cover it, and, 2. It won’t really fix the clenching problem. So is there anything that you have tried to reduce teeth clenching that has worked pretty well?

    JOCELYNN,
YES, THERE IS HELP FOR YOU. IT’S CALLED A CUSTOM N.T.I. APPLIANCE BY YOUR DENTIST. MY PATIENTS LOVE THIS THING.

Go to Wal-mart in the sports section & get the mouth guard that lets you put it in boiling water & mold it to your mouth. My daughters dentist told her to go get that for her clenching while sleeping. It’s under $2.

I was a horrible clencher & grinder. My dentist fitted me for a mouth guard called an NTI. It is the best thing I ever got from my dentist. It actually does stop the clenching because of the way it is designed. I know that is not the answer you are looking for, but that is what I can offer.

It’s frustrating when people leave responses that do not answer your question, isn’t it. You already said you cannot afford to have an appliance made but yet that is what people are telling you.
Be that as it may, you have a problem that has the dental & medical profession baffled for years. There is no quick remedy & there is no cheap solution to clenching at night. Rest assured that it is very common & the amount of stress in your life increases it. Unfortunately, it is a problem that dentists do not yet know how to treat effectively except by having you wear a special appliance but that is not an option for you & that does not stop the clenching, it just lessens the damage it does to your teeth & jaw muscles.
A “home remedy” would be to have a vigorous workout to tire yourself out so that you can fall asleep exhausted. This may lessen the clenching. Other than that, there is no cheap cure or known solution to your problem.
